Back in the day, Air Playit was THE app to use to stream content from your PC/Mac to your iOS device, as long as you had the Air Playit program running on the PC/Mac. It uses Air Play, as the name suggests.
It was removed from the App Store sometime in 2013 or 2014. I personally stopped using the app in 2013, but it still works today (tested on iOS 4.3.3), and since Air Playit website is still up, you can still get their program.
